Shortlisted for the 2012 Turner Prize for a puppet show of the story of Jesus and Barabbas Spartacus Chetwynd assumes the audience is intelligent to pick up on the huge amount of biblical, political, philosophical and literal references in her performances. Using far from, perfect handmade costumes and environments she dissolves the boundary between amateurism and professionalism, performer and spectator creating live painting: a spontaneous, joyful and noisy improvisation to maintain the sense of freedom and collective participation.
