God Particle

the missing mass explained tomorrow

In the "standard model" of matter the particles - atoms: protons, electrons etc. - don't have enough mass to add up the mass of the whole. As in this model all matter was born without mass in the Big Bang, something happened later. Physicist Peter Higgs proposed that there is an invisible force field in the universe and as particles travel through this field they acquire mass with the help of an associated particle: a  "force carrier", that transmits the effect of the field to the particles during an interaction.
that physicists at Cern, home of the Large Hadron Collider have found the physical manifestation of the force carrier, called God particle.
